A guide to letting go and moving forward

We are coming to the end of the year and I'm sure like everyone you’ve had your ups and down this year. Now is a great time for reflection and introspection. If you have managed to recognise patterns and things that no longer serve you now is the perfect time to work on letting go and moving on into the new year without anything holding you back.

The first thing to think about is how you can take advantage of the collective energy around the world. With new years resolutions being a common theme globally the collective energy of beautiful humans setting intentions to better themselves is so powerful. We can tap into this simply by joining in. Taking the time to reflect on the past year, think about any patterns you can recognise that are hindering your growth. Any people that are having a more negative affect than positive affect in your life, habits that need to be broken. The first step to being able to let go of anything at all is recognising that something or someone is not good for us. Being able to take note and acknowledge that we need to let go is a powerful force in itself. This is a great step forward to our own personal development and improvement.

Once you have identified what not longer serves us the next step is to take action. Here is a simple ritual you can do to start the process.

You’ll need :

A pen

Paper

Candles / lighter

2 Bowls ( that can handle a little fire )

Open mind

Water

To start find a space where you are comfortable and won’t be disturbed

Light the candle/candles,  and fill one bowl with water. Take a minute to be calm and express gratitude for this exact moment in time. Think about what you need to let go of and also express gratitude firstly for your ability to recgonize this and secondly for your ability to let this go.

Next write down everything you feel no longers serves you and you want to let go of on the paper. Take time to really feel the words as you write them and keep in mind the feeling of gratitude for being able to let go of this.

Fold the paper and take the corner and hold it over the candle flame/ light with lighter. Take note that if it struggles to light it may indicate a little stubbornness to really let this go. Once the paper is lit place it in the empty bowl and watch the paper turn to ash. Next place both hands in the water and wash them with the water as you imagine all the things hindering you just washing away.

You should feel a weight lifted after this ritual, your journey to moving on and bringing in new positive habits and people into your life has begun. Doing this to start the new year, accompanied by the collective energy around the world really is magic. If you ever find yourself disconnected or distracted from this journal of improvement you can always take yourself back to this ritual and repeat it.
